Deciding between parenting and adoption (and for some abortion) is a very big decision, each with a very different outcome.

This is your decision - no one can or should make this decision for you. You have to do what is best for your baby. We are simply here to give you the resources and support needed should you choose to make an adoption plan through Christian Adoption Services. All of our services to you are free and confidential.

If you make the choice to allow us to help you make an adoption plan, we will come alongside of you and help you every step of the way.

El Proceso de Adopción

1.

Types of Adoption

Open Adoption

In an open adoption, the birth parents can choose and meet the adoptive family from our approved waiting families. The adoptive family and the birth family share information openly and can stay in direct contact after placement. The openness is personalized to fit your desire but typically includes regular updates through texts, phone calls, face time, etc. and can include face-to-face visits if you would like.

SEMI-Open Adoption

In a semi-open adoption, birth parents can choose and meet the adoptive family from our approved waiting families but identifying information such as address and phone numbers are not shared. The adoptive family sends regular updates and pictures to the birth family. In this arrangement, the agency serves as the mediator for any contact. The birth family can also send letters and special gifts but is not obligated to do so.

Closed Adoption

It’s called a closed adoption because the birth family decides they do not want contact with the adoptive family or child. In this arrangement, the baby would be placed with an approved waiting adoptive family that Christian Adoption Services chooses for you. However, if at any time the birth family decides they would like to receive updates, they can.

If you have questions or are unsure of which type of adoption is best for you and your child, our adoption coordinators can walk you through each option to help you make the most informed decision.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I choose the family?

Absolutely! Christian Adoption Services believes you should be in the driver’s seat! All of our waiting families are ready to take on the responsibility of parenting your child. You can view their profiles here.

Do you help with living & medical expenses?

As a licensed agency, we are allowed by law to help with medical and reasonable living expenses related to your pregnancy. Please contact your caseworker if you have questions about your expenses.

Does the birth father have rights?

We are happy to involve the birth father in the process if he would like to be involved. However, if he doesn't want to be involved or doesn't want to cooperate, we can still work with you. Often, if the two of you are not married, or he has not supported you emotionally or financially during your pregnancy, his consent may not even be needed. Each case needs to be evaluated individually to discern what rights, if any, he may have. If his identity is unknown, we can still help you make an adoption plan. If your baby was conceived as the result of a rape, consent of the father is not necessary. Your family does not have legal rights to your baby and cannot make decisions for you. It is important for you to have support from those who love and care about you, but ultimately it is you who has to make good decisions for the future of you and your baby. Your caseworker will help guide you through this process with care and sensitivity.

Does it cost me anything?

All of our agency’s birth parent services are Free and Confidential, and there is absolutely no cost to you to make an adoption plan.

How much will my child know about me?

That depends on the level of openness that you choose. In choosing open adoption, you will share full identity with the adoptive family and have regular, direct contact. In a semi-open adoption, pictures/updates are sent by the adoptive family to the agency and forwarded to you. If you choose a closed adoption, contact information is not shared and updates will not be sent to you unless you request so.

What if my baby has a medical condition?

No matter your baby’s medical diagnosis, we have waiting families that are ready to care for a child that may have some challenges ahead. Our agency is dedicated to serving all children! We also have waiting, approved families for every race child.

Can I choose my hospital experience?

While in the hospital you can have as much or as little contact with the baby as you desire. During your pregnancy, you can personalize a hospital plan that will best meet your needs. Your adoption coordinator can communicate your wishes to hospital staff before birth.

How soon will my child go to the adoptive family?

Your baby can be placed directly with the adoptive couple you’ve selected the day of discharge from the hospital, so there is no need for foster care.

How do I know my child will be cared for?

Families seeking to adopt through Christian Adoption Services must meet the agency’s standards. The agency completes a thorough assessment of each potential adoptive family prior to receiving placement of a child. Before the adoption has been finalized, a social worker will make home visits with the baby and family. These visits are to assure the child’s well-being.

Can my child find me?

North Carolina law currently states that a child has the right to contact the agency after the age of 18 for information about his/her adoption. However, you have to mutually agree before the agency can release your identifying information. Also, a consideration is that more adoptees are locating their birth relatives through the use of technology and the advancement of DNA.
