Rebecca & John

We are excited to welcome to our family a boy (or twins if one is a boy) up to 3 months of age, through an open, semi-open or closed adoption.

DEAR EXPECTANT MOTHER

To a courageous woman carrying a precious baby,
We really do not know how to express to you how much we respect you and all of the feelings we have that this note cannot show. It’s crazy to feel love for someone who you have never met. We deeply admire your courage to even consider the most selfless act of your lifetime – adoption. The choice to place your baby into the arms of another family through adoption is a gift that cannot be matched. We truly have no words. And, we are talkative, loud people – so that is a lot for us to say!

We thank you for considering us. We pray you are surrounded with encouragement and support as you attempt to make this difficult decision. We do not, for one minute, underestimate how challenging it must be to wrestle with knowing that you are carrying a baby that another family may hold. From our earliest days together (16 years), we have dreamed of the day that we would welcome a baby into our home through adoption. We are so pumped that we are getting close to the moment when God may make this possible.

We are a family of 7 with 3 daughters on earth (ages 10, 7, 5) and 2 sons in heaven. Those girls have been praying for a little sibling for literally years! We live in a fun neighborhood that includes a swim and tennis club, plus many of our very best friends. The girls go to our neighborhood school, which we love, and there is a high value in the school on diversity. Our church family is large and very tight-knit. We feel blessed that we literally have hundreds of people praying for you, for this baby, and for us.

John works as a corporate attorney and Rebecca is an ordained pastor and licensed marriage and family therapist in our local church. For fun, we love to throw theme parties, take vacations, and enjoy down time at home.

Again, please know more than anything that we are praying for you and we love you, even though we do not know you. You are beautiful and courageous. Thank you for considering our family for your biggest decision.

With love & so much respect,
John & Rebecca

What John says about Rebecca
When I was a little boy, I dreamed of marrying one of Barker’s Beauties from the Price is Right. While I might have just dated myself with that TV show reference, it truly came to fruition with Rebecca as my bride. But as beautiful as she is outside (and boy is she), she is unbelievably gorgeous on the inside.

Rebecca was born to do many things. First, she was born to live her life boldly for our Lord. She strives to do this daily and it is evident to her family, friends, and the people she meets. Second, she was created to be a mother. She has an unbelievable gift of loving on our children no matter what the situation or surrounding. Our children know she is a safe place and a wealth of wisdom. One of my greatest joys in life is to see her love on our children through a simple snuggle on a Saturday morning or praying with them nightly as we wind down the day with bedtime stories and prayer. She is the perfect partner for me to grow old with. Third, she is a leader to so many, specifically the women of our church. She is authentic with her life story which she owns as His story. She has an unbelievable ability to speak truth to people in a loving, grace-filled way in her role at her job in our church. She has been given the wonderful opportunity to fulfill her calling by caring for the church body at a very young age and time in her career. Lastly, Rebecca loves on her friends well. Simply put, she cares for others like no other, regardless of the turmoil or how high the waves can be, she is there.

I am a blessed man for many reasons but sharing my life and growing old with Rebecca may make me the richest man in the world and allows me to live out my dream of marrying a Barker’s Beauty.

What Rebecca says about John
John has many names to those who love him. When we met in college, he was the fun, life-of-the-party, baseball guy who had come down from Canada so he quickly picked up the nickname Canada from me. Almost 16 years later, I still call him Canada. Sometimes I will shorten it and call him Johnny though. All that to say, this man of mine is one of the most special people you will ever meet.

When we met in college at a Halloween party I was dressed as an angel and he fell in love instantly! We laugh often. He is truly one of the funniest people I have ever met. He loves all sports, being with friends, and throwing a fun themed party. More than any of those loves in his life, his first and true love is Jesus and then his family. Recently when he was interviewing for a job, he explained that there are no higher priorities than his relationship with Christ and his relationship with the girls in his life (and hopefully soon with his son!).

I knew that I wanted to marry this guy pretty quickly. In one of our first conversations he was explaining to me the plans that he had been dreaming up his whole life of how he would propose to his wife. Well, that proposal didn’t happen but he did pretend to get himself arrested when he asked me to be his wife! Crazy guy! Watching him love on his mother and sister confirmed his sweet character to me. All of these years later he has proven true that he loves big and selflessly.

Canada is a natural leader. He works as a business law attorney by day and a husband and daddy by night! He and I have led several small groups and Bible studies together. He has also been a deacon in our church for many years and gets to benefit from participating in a small mentoring group led by our seasoned senior pastor. At the girls’ elementary school, he heads up the All Pro Dads group that meets each month to encourage great relationships between fathers and their children. Most people in Canada’s life feel they are his best friend because he gives each person special attention.

We love this Canadian baseball player turned lawyer in a big way!
